Kids... they just don't understand.

Yesterday I went looking to purchase a birthday present for a three year old.  This was terribly difficult task.  For a lot of people, they would just think back to what they were into when they were three years old.  Me, I wasn't like normal three year olds.  When other kids were learning their letters on Sesame Street, I was reading Russian Literature.  My dad, tried to get me to read some of the Greek "classics", but I found them too, I don't know kitschy.  When other kids were buidling towers out of cardboard blocks, I was building algorythms out of theoretical data sets.

So after three hours of comparing stuffed animals (that didn't look remotely like the real thing), I opted for a more practical present... a pocket knife.  What three year old wouldn't want a pocket knife.

Misty says that children don't understand my sense of humor.  I in turn think most children have a somewhat dull sense of humor.  Why is that bonking yourself on the head repeatedly with a foam ball kills with most toddlers, yet subtle more ironic word play gets blank stares.  The other night I was having dinner with Samansa, a two year old.  She thought the funniest thing was when I would lift the front of my shirt over my face and hang it over my head.  Ironically, friends in college thought this was really funny when I would do the same thing at a public urinal.

All this to say, I don't understand small children.  Those first couple of months when we have children are going to be interesting to say the least.

  1. Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa (http://ninjiom-hk.cwahi.net/) may be another choice. i know alot of people use it, its also non alcoholic, though it's effectiveness is not as good as alcohol based cough medicine, but it's still good to use on not so serious scratchy throat.
