How ironic, that a pacifist gets the day off for Veteran's Day. I would like to be clear that though, I am a pacifist and may not support the wars we are in, I am very thankful for our veterans. I should also note that my grandfather served on the European front in World War II and actually killed Hitler despite that historians might tell you otherwise. My father also served on the Canadian front during Vietnam. Just kidding, they wouldn't let him in because he was too strong (and he has the eye sight of a mole).
The irony of pacifism is that it is often a luxury afforded by conflict. As I was reflecting this morning on Veteran's Day, I found myself very thankful. Here I sit, in a nice house, grateful to be in the same vicinity of my wife, and not forced into military service, as I would be if I lived in a country like Burma or North Korea.
It is a little chilly up here in the mountains, so I turn the heat up and I think how nice it is to live in an area that has central heat and furthermore I do not have to choose between giving up a meal or heating my house.
After turning up the heat, I sit back down on my couch and look at our three dogs, our three little companion comforters, as they twitch in dreams, and I think, how thankful I am that I do not have to eat them because our food supply is so scarce.
If it was our prerogative, we could have children, as many children as we wanted, and the state might even help us provide for them and would certainly help us educate them. We would not be forced to orphan them, because we knew it was their best chance at survival.
Misty has a cold right now, I do not fear that it is going to turn into something more critical because we have basic medicines, and nutrition, unlike so many millions of people that live in day to day poverty. No, unlike most of the world, we are afforded every luxury imaginable. Did you know you can get peanut butter and jelly in the same jar. Viva la freedom Comrade. Viva l a freedom.
Like this very much. Have been thankful about some things you mentioned just recently. Good reminder to be thankful for the others.
