Orphan Sunday

Tomorrow, at churches across the country there will be one unifying subject.  For tomorrow, many churches will participate in Orphan Sunday.  In fact, it is suggested that if you are attending one of these churches you dress up like a famous orphan.  Such notable orphans include, but are not limited to Little Orphan Annie, Oliver Twist, Coco Channel, Nelson Mandela, the Muslim prophet Mohammed, Marilyn Monroe, Babe Ruth and Edgar Allen Poe.   I would imagine most people will be dressing up like The Great Bambino or Marilyn, so if you want to stick out you should dress like the prophet Mohammed.  Fellow congregants will get a real kick out of that... trust me.

Anyways, back to Orphan Sunday.  Please consider us, and other friends you know of that are considering adoption during your time of worship.  We need all the prayers we can get.  In fact I will offer this challenge.  Well, I don't have a challenge just yet, but hopefully by the end of the blog I will be able to present a challenge like "if you give me x, I will do y".  When I put it like that it sounds like a dirty geometry problem, but you get the gist.

Anyways, again , back to Orphan Sunday.  147 million orphans.  Consider that.  You can't can you.  Our minds cannot begin to fathom such gigantic numbers.  If there was one orphan in the world, how would you react.  (again the question mark key does not work).  Would you give that one orphan money, clothes, help connect them with someone that would adopt them.  Would it keep you up at night, thinking of that child in a sterile institution, devoid of the love of a family.

I sleep pretty well most nights, but there are many a nights, I stir in bed feeling pretty helpless.  We want to provide a home for a couple of the five million orphans in Ethiopia, but because we don't have that $30000, we can't.  We are trying, and we won't give up until we do, but still, there are two kids out there in an orphanage feeling alone, abandoned and unloved RIGHT NOW.

So I ask again, as I have asked many times before, will you help solve the orphan problem by
1)  Support economic practices such a purchasing Fair Trade marked products that prevent children from becoming orphans to begin with.
2)  Consider adopting
3)  Help people you know that want to adopt (such as us :) )  You can do so at this website  http://www.active.com/donate/5millionkids or by sending a check directly to  10070 Chipita Park Rd, Cascade CO 80809

And now for the challenge.  If we raise $3000 between now and December I will run-walk from Colorado Springs to Denver.  Mapquest states it as 70 miles.
