A conversation with my dad about adoption

This weekend I have had the pleasure to spend time with my parents.  They are currently doing the grandchildren tour and even though we only have three dogs to offer as grandchildren, they decided to come and visit us anyway.

In a moment you will watch another animated cartoon.  After watching you might think my dad is a real jerk.  I assure you, nothing could be further from the truth.  My dad is a great man.  He has always supported me in all my ventures including our adoption.  That is not entirely true.  My dad did at one point tell me that I would never be able to play college basketball. Though this was a hard blow to take, I was in college at the time and looking back now, I think he was right.

My old man was always a great father.  I am hard pressed to remember ever not seeing him on the sidelines during the hundreds of sporting events we had.  What impresses me most about my dad t though is that he worked to provide for his family.  I don't think we were spoiled, but we never had to worry about our most basic needs of food, shelter and clothing.  Though he might not of loved his work, he did it to provide us with an excellent quality of life.

I often now think about what kind of father I will be.  I know I will embarrass my children, I mean, Misty cannot leave the house without me embarrassing her now.  I hope that I will follow after my own dad though, and not only embarrass my kids, but also be able to cast aside all my selfish ambitions to provide the best possible life for my kids.

Enjoy the film.
