Back in the High Life Again

As many of you know, last Friday I went to visit my cousin Eriq who was in Denver with the Nationals .  We stayed at the Ritz Carleton in Denver.  The hotel was okay... if you are a crack cocaine addict that is simply looking for a place to squat.  The first thing you notice when you walk in  the room is the decor which just screamed 2008.  Don't get me wrong, 2008 was a good year, that is unless you worked for Lehman Bros. or were in interior designer.  I found the in room espresso maker to be adequate, but quite frankly the espresso was too hot.  A long time ago, I vowed never to sleep in less than 600 thread count sheets unless I was camping, though I did not count I can only assume these sheets were 500 at best.  I did have a great time hanging out with cousin Eriq.  Every time we went out, I tried to pay but he would say "I work for a major league baseball team, I'll pay" loud enough for every table around us to hear, it was embarrassing.  When we got back to the hotel we watched the new Mel Gibson movie The Edge of Darkness about a father that seeks revenge for the murder of his lactose intolerant daughter.  I believe it is a sequel to The Passion of the Christ. It was pretty good, but the character that played "Judas" was hardly believable.

The following day I went with my friend Scot (pseudonym) to the Rockies / Nationals game.  Again, I broke the promise I made to myself many years ago when I said I would never sit more than 35 rows behind home plate.  Eriq had us in row 36, it was very embarrassing.

The real story is that Sunday several friend ran the Marine Corp Half Marathon and the 5K.  Several of which did so so to help Misty and I raise money for our adoption costs.  Pirch, who I have talked about in previous posts was recently diagnosed by his doctor as being a huge a-hole.  He came in 11th place.  There were 5,419 runners.  Pirch came in 11th.  That is remarkably ridiculous.

The real hero though was my friend Josh.  If you don't know Josh, he is like the anti Pirch.  When they finally figure out how to stop that oil leak in the gulf, we will all think- Josh did it again.  When Osama Bin Laden comes out of captivity to say he is sorry and was turning himself in, he will say it is because that is what Josh would have done.  Josh is a remarkable individual, I mean, he is even a published author for Pete's sake. Josh ran for just under 2:40.  That is like running for the duration of the Godfather II.  I would like to see Pirch do that.
